Stonewall Riots

The riots that occurred in New York City’s Stonewall Inn signify a pivotal point in the fight for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights!

The Stonewall Riots, which were also called the Stonewall Uprising, began in the morning of June 28, 1969 when the New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn. The Stonewall Inn is a gay club (that still exists today) located in Greenwich Village in New York City. That raid ignited the bar patrons to riot, along with the neighbourhood residents, as police violently hauled employees and patrons out of the bar. Followed by six days of protests, and violent confrontations with law enforcement. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement around the world.
